FBI Issues Fake Bin Laden Video, Picture Warning

Spammers Spread Malware Through Social Media, Email

The FBI issued a warning Wednesday about emails and messages on social networking sites that claim to show pictures or video of Osama bin Laden's death.

Spammers and hackers are using the very high-interest event to peddle their wares, or worse.

Numerous postings on Facebook and other social media sites led visitors to spyware-infected pages.

"This malicious software or malware can (embed) itself in computers and spread to users' contact lists, thereby infecting the systems of associates, friends and family members," read an FBI statement. "These viruses are often programmed to steal your personally identifiable information."

The feds urged people to adjust privacy settings on social media sites to keep people from posting content that hasn't been reviewed.
