Firefighters rescue family dog from house fire

Nobody was home at time of fire

INDIANAPOLIS -

Firefighters rescued a dog from a residence fire Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 3700 block of Ruckle Street just after 4:30 p.m.

The home is owned and occupied by Angela Cervantez-Gardner, 43, and her sons Chazz, 20, and 18-year-old Cylen, a media release said.

No one was home at the time of the fire except for the family dog, Diesel.

Diesel was rescued from the basement, the media release said.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, but Battalion Chief Rick Longerich estimated damage to the home to be $100,000, the release said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Indianapolis Fire Department Victim’s Assistance unit will help the family find shelter.
