YORKTOWN, Ind. - Children with special needs will be able to experience the thrill of playing baseball through a special league that's being launched in Yorktown.
The Challenge League will be noncompetitive and won't have outs or scorekeeping. Commissioner Mark Taylor tells The Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1bD9ypv ) every player will get to hit and run the bases.
Each player will have a volunteer "buddy" to serve as an assistant. Taylor says that will let family members watch and cheer from the sidelines.
Taylor says he was interested in starting the league so children like his daughter could experience playing on a baseball team.
The fee to join the team is $25, but Taylor says some financial aid might be available for those in need.
