INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis mom and entrepreneur will board a plane to New York City this week to launch her product after winning a nationwide reality TV cooking competition.
Tekisha Collins and her Smoogy Cookie beat out culinary competitors from across the country on Lifetime’s “Supermarket Superstar.”
"Wow! A year ago I had no clue what I was getting into. I just went to the casting and who could tell me 365 days later, my product would actually be on its way to the shelves. I am so excited," Collins said.
Collins turned her kitchen into her home office after losing her job and decided to sell her sweet cookie treat, complete with the secret frozen filling, to help support her family.
“Supermarket Superstar” helped Collins with financing, packaging and marketing. Now her Smoogy Cookie, named by her young son, will hit A&P store shelves across the East Coast on Saturday.
"Oh my gosh, Indianapolis, we did it! I'm just so excited. I'm humbled by the opportunity in front of me. Because it could have been anybody but it was me," Collins said.
Collins said she's nervous about the media tour and product launch, but ready for the hard work ahead.
"I'm just excited about the opportunity in front of me and my ultimate goal is to get it here to the hometown everywhere. I'm trying to get it to Lucas Oil, Bankers Life, everywhere. If you're at a sporting event, I want you to have a Smoogy. If you're watching a movie, I want you to have a Smoogy. I'm trying to get there. I'm definitely ready for the work. It's going to be a lot of work, there's still a lot to do, but I'm ready,” Collins said.
Collins will sign autographs all weekend in New York City at the big launch for Smoogy Cookie.
The launch will include two flavors: lemon delight and chocolate fudge.
