MUNCIE, Ind. - A puppy that was near death when it was rescued from a Muncie trash container in February is thriving in its new home with the man who saved it.
The puppy was 6 weeks old when Michael Upchurch heard its faint cries while working his trash route. He pulled out the frozen 3-pound puppy and warmed it up before taking it to a veterinary clinic.
The dog became a local celebrity and was featured in USA Today and on CNN. It even has its own Facebook page with more than 4,500 likes.
The Star Press reports (http://indy.st/174OTXH ) the dog now weighs about 23 pounds and has been named Garby.
Upchurch says he can't imagine life without the puppy.
