INDIANAPOLIS -- It may not quite be Christmas yet, but 480 students at the Daniel Webster School No. 46 left Friday with a bag of socks, shoes and a toy.

The event has been happening for more than a decade.

Grocery store chain Kroger pays for the event, so each child can leave with a new pair of shoes.

Carnival Shoes' employees were on hand, making sure each shoe fits well for the students.

Many kids said getting the shoes made their Christmas.

"They feel soft inside and I want to wear them now," said second-grader Ashlynn Arthur.

Indiana Pacers' mascot Boomer was also there to give them some extra smiles.
