IMPD: Officer Drove Patrol Car While Drunk

Officer Arrested, Now On Sick Leave

An Indianapolis Metro police officer is alleged to have driven his patrol car while intoxicated.

An internal investigation is under way following a two-car crash that happened Dec. 7 at Meridian and South streets.

No one was hurt in the wreck, but investigators said a Breathalyzer test showed that Officer Geoffrey Barbieri was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

Barbieri was arrested shortly after the incident.

Officials said Barbieri is now out on sick leave.
