Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves gears up for 'Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars' debut
-
Indianapolis 500 champ Helio Castroneves will be eyeing a win of a different kind as he takes to the dance floor on "Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars" for the first time Monday night.
-
The Penske Racing driver, who won Season 5 of the reality show in 2007 with fan favorite Julianne Hough, is teamed up with Chelsie Hightower for the all-star edition.
-
The pair, who have been crisscrossing the country to rehearse in recent months, are now holed up in a nondescript Hollywood building as they prepare for their big debut.
-
"I feel like it's (been five years), but, at the end of the day, it's awesome to be back," Castroneves told RTV6 sports director Dave Furst.
-
So far, Castroneves has lost six pounds rehearsing nonstop. Hightower has been impressed with his skills.
-
"He's doing awful! No, just kidding. No, he's doing really good," she said. "It's more enjoyable on my part because I get to see a little bit more growth and, obviously, he understands what the challenge is."
-
While the racer and Hough were magic on the floor together, Castroneves said he and his new partner have hit it off as well.
-
"They gave me another blond. It worked five years ago. If everything works, why change?" he laughed. "Five years ago it was me and Julianne, and now I can't believe it. I couldn't be happier to have someone as talented as Chelsie."
-
Castroneves and Hightower's first dance will be the fox trot Monday night.
-
He said he hopes Indianapolis' racing community will show support with their votes.
-
"It's going to depend a little bit on my performance, but I think it's going to depend a lot about the voters," Castroneves said. "Hopefully everyone from the race community in Indianapolis will be voting. It's going to be a lot of fun."
