TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. - A rollover wreck Saturday on I-65 South in Tippecanoe County sent the driver – who was not wearing a seat belt – to the hospital with critical injuries.
Indiana State Police (ISP) said just after 11:30 Saturday morning, crews responded to a single-vehicle crash roughly 1 mile south of exit 172 (the State Road 26 exit at Lafayette).
Investigators said an SUV driven by James E. Durham, Jr., 41, of Indianapolis, was in the right lane of southbound I-65. Witnesses told ISP Durham’s SUV began to change lanes, but lost control, sending the SUV rolling at least four times, if not more.
ISP said Durham was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with critical injuries. Investigators also said at the time of the crash, Durham was not wearing a seat belt.
Traffic was down to one lane for roughly one hour to clean up the crash damage and remove Durham. ISP said drugs and alcohol were likely not contributing factors.
