Indy Police Thwart Robbery In Progress

Three people were apprehended early Thursday morning after what police called a foiled robbery attempt in a home on the city's south side.

The incident happened in the Fountain Square neighborhood in the 1000 block of Spruce Street. Neighbors called police just after midnight when the saw someone carrying items out of the house, 6News' Julie Pursley reported.

When officers arrived, they determined that a robbery was in progress and that three people were in the home who shouldn't be there.

Two people were taken into custody immediately, but the third person barricaded himself inside the home and didn't come out until a SWAT unit was called in.

Officers said they knew something was wrong when they saw someone was being held inside.

"When the first officer arrived, he moved to the rear of the residence, where he observed the back door open, " said Indianapolis police Maj. John Conley. "Upon approaching the back door, he noticed a gentleman sitting a few feet inside tied up in a chair."

Investigators said the man who was tied up was not hurt. No one was injured in the incident.
