Investigators: No seat belt worn in fatal S. Indiana crash

17 year old dead after Perry County wreck

PERRY COUNTY, Ind. - A 17-year-old southern Indiana teen is dead after his car ran off the roadway and hit a wooded area early Saturday morning.

Indiana State Police (ISP) said at roughly 1:15 a.m., ISP troopers and Perry County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-vehicle wreck on Deer Creek Road near Thistle Drive in Perry County that had killed a Cannelton, Ind., teen.

Investigators said Steven Thomasson, 17, had been driving his pickup truck north on Deer Creek Road when, for yet unknown reasons, he drove off the west side of the roadway, where his truck struck several trees.

ISP investigators said they determined Thomasson was not wearing a seat belt, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Perry County coroner. The vehicle was destroyed.
