Samantha Hale, an undergraduate student at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis, was one of seven students spending four weeks studying the use of digital media on the island of Paros, Greece.

Hale fell from a balcony June 29, the night before the students were set to return to Indianapolis.

She died Thursday at a local hospital, school officials said.

"IUPUI had dispatched staff and faculty to assist in any way they could. That's what a family, even one as large as IUPUI, does," the school said in a statement. "Like any family, we celebrate our accomplishments and we grieve when any one of us suffers an injury or a loss."

School officials said local authorities had not determined what caused Hale's fall.
