IMPD: 1 dead, 1 critical after shooting on city's NE side

INDIANAPOLIS - Police are investigating after one person died and another person was left in critical condition after a shooting on the city’s northeast side Monday night.
The incident happened in the 3800 block of North Layman Avenue around 7 p.m.
When police arrived to the scene, they found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in the front yard of a house, officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Police said one victim, 34-year-old Carlton Jenkins, was found dead in the car.
The second victim, 34-year-old Brian Ligon, was found lying on the street and was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to his leg. He was treated and released, police said.
No arrests were made and the shooting remained under investigation, IMPD said.
The Marion County Coroner's Office will identify the victim after an autopsy is performed.
