INDIANAPOLIS - A 53-year-old woman died in a house fire on the city's near-southwest side Friday night.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews arrived at the fire shortly after 6 p.m. at 1221 Kappes St.

IFD extinguished the fire in about 10 minutes, then discovered the woman's body inside.

Officials are not releasing the woman's identity until her family has been notified.

The woman's live-in boyfriend was not at home during the fire, but he arrived on the scene later, officials said.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene of the fire as part of standard procedure.

Investigators have determined that the fire was accidental, but they have not ruled out smoking as the cause of the blaze.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the woman's cause of death.
