1 dead in south side residence fire
86-year-old man died in fire

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Fire Department has confirmed that an 86-year-old man died in a residence fire Saturday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the scene in the 8900 block of Sunburst Circle just after 1:30 p.m. on the city's south side.
Crews were alerted by neighbors that there was an elderly man that stayed inside the home.
Once crews made entry in to the residence, they encountered heavy smoke conditions, a media release said.
IFD said the fire began in the living room and was contained to the room of origin.
The elderly man was found inside the living room and paramedics determined the man to be deceased on arrival, the release said.
Firefighters had the fire under control within 20 minutes.
IFD and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
