INDIANAPOLIS - Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said that IMPD was involved in a shooting on the city's east side early Sunday afternoon.
Officers were called to the 4800 block of East 19th Street just after 1 p.m. for a domestic disturbance between a man and woman who had a child in common, police said.
Police entered the apartment and found the male suspect pointing a gun at the female, officials said.
Officer Greg Taylor, an 11-year police veteran, feared for the life of the female and fired his gun, hitting the suspect in his lower body, police said.
When the officers took cover to protect themselves, the suspect ran outside and across the street.
He was uncooperative with police and was eventually apprehended by an IMPD K-9 officer, police said.
Officials said paramedics took the man to Wishard Memorial Hospital in serious condition suffering from a gunshot wound.
No other injuries were reported.
