MCCORDSVILLE, Ind. - The victim of Tuesday night's fatal train accident was preliminarily identified by authorities Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Evelyn Wasson, 75, of Marion County, was killed instantly in the crash.
Crews responded to the fatal wreck involving a freight train and a car in Hancock County late Tuesday evening.
The crash happened just off Pendleton Pike at County Road 700 West in McCordsville, near the Marion County line, around 9:30 p.m., officials said.
Officials with the McCordsville Police Department said the train was traveling northeast at the time of the crash. Investigators believe the car was hit and dragged along the tracks.
The Hancock County Sheriff confirmed Wasson was ejected from the vehicle. The accident is still under investigation.
