INDIANAPOLIS -- One person was killed Wednesday in a shooting on the northeast side near Washington Park.

The shooting happened around 8:15 p.m. on the 3100 block of Brouse Avenue at the Blackburn Terrace Apartments.

Police were called to the area on a report of shots fired and arrived to find a male victim in his 20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was declared dead at the scene a shot time later.

He was later identified as Phillip Brown Jr., 25.

Despite the daylight hours and high visibility of the area, police said they were getting limited cooperation from possible witnesses.

The area has seen the highest rate of homicides in the city this year, with at least 11 homicides reported in a 1-mile radius.
