TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. - A 19-year-old man was killed and a 14-year-old girl was injured in a rollover crash in Tipton County late Wednesday, police said.
The crash was reported just before 11: 30 p.m. on State Road 19 near County Road 400 South. When officials arrived at the scene, they saw a 2002 Pontiac Aztek flipped on its roof in the field east of S.R. 19.
Police said the driver, William Lamoreaux, 19, of Florida, had been ejected from the SUV and was found lying in the field. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The 14-year-old passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to IU Health- Tipton Hospital for treatment.
Investigators determined that moments before the crash, the driver appeared to lose control of the SUV before striking a ditch. The impact of the crash caused the SUV to roll several times. Lamoreaux was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the SUV. Speed and roadway conditions were determined to be factors in the cause of the crash, police said.
