ANDERSON, Ind. -- A 19-year-old was pulled out of the Anderson YMCA pool not breathing and unresponsive Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:26 p.m. officers were called to the Anderson YMCA about a drowning. Once on scene, officers talked to the on-duty lifeguard, who said the victim had been swimming with two friends. The three of them had been swimming in the twelve feet deep portion of the pool several times without displaying any trouble or concern for their safety, the lifeguard told police.

The lifeguard told police that one of the victim's friends came out of the water yelling for help. The lifeguard then jumped in the water and made several attempts to rescue the teen from the bottom of the pool, but was unable to do it on his own. Two other people helped the lifeguard and used a life hook to pull the victim from the bottom of the pool.

The victim was taken to St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Anderson and was later taken by helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis.
