INDIANAPOLIS - It's been 13 months in the making, and the new CityWay project is set to have its first residents move in on Monday.
Scott Travis, with the Buckingham Companies, said he thinks the project is very accommodating to those who chose to live downtown.
"Our residents will be able to walk to work," he said. "We have four corporate campuses; 18,000 daytime employees are within a five-minute walk from this particular site."
The location seems to be what city residents enjoy.
CityWay has already sold almost half of their 250 units.
"The interesting thing is we signed many of those leases before they could see the unit inside," Travis said.
When residents move in, they will find a spacious living room area, a cozy bedroom, kitchen with new appliances and one fantastic view.
The new neighborhood will include retail, restaurants, a YMCA and a hotel, all next to Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Travis said he expects restaurants to start opening the Friday after Thanksgiving.
This project is expected to create $350 million in economic development over a five-year period. Almost 2,800 jobs will be created as part of this project.
CityWay has come a long way since its conception four years ago, and Travis said he is excited to see the first phase complete.
"The last four months had been a rapid change from the parking lot, to where we are standing on the fifth floor, and to be able to see the people in here enjoying that is the ultimate reward," he said.
