CARMEL, Ind. - Two students in Hamilton County have been infected with MRSA, Carmel Clay Schools administrators said.
The cases of the staph infections were confirmed at Carmel High School and officials said they're taking extra precaution to ensure the bacteria doesn't spread to other students.
School officials said the source of the bacteria was believed to be the locker room and that the best way for students to prevent infection is to shower after every practice and athletic event, and to regularly wash sports equipment and clothing. The school's locker rooms have since been decontaminated, official said.
Carmel High School officials said they partnered with medical experts at St. Vincent Hospital's Sports Medicine to identify the skin infections and treatment for the students.
