Police: Both expected to be OK

INDIANAPOLIS - A state representative and his daughter were injured in a two-car crash downtown Thursday evening, police said.

Officials said the crash happened at Capitol Avenue and Ohio Street just before 7 p.m., officials with the Indianapolis Fire Department said.

A Cadillac STS was traveling westbound on Ohio Street when it was struck on the passenger side by a Kia Sorento traveling southbound on Capitol Avenue, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

The female driver of the Kia was not injured, officials said. She was identified as 24-year-old Megan Durham. Authorities said she is a nurse at Riley Hospital for Children.

Officers at the scene identified the driver of the Cadillac as State Rep. David Niezgodski, 53, of South Bend. Niezgodski and his adult daughter were both taken to Eskenazi Health in critical, but stable condition.

IMPD officials said they spoke with Niezgodski who was shaken up and injured, but doing OK.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police said there were no signs of impairment.
