LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Two people are dead after an officer-involved shooting with the Lafayette Police Department.
Just after 11:15 p.m. Thursday, Lafayette police officers were called to the IHOP restaurant in the 4200 block of State Road 26 on reports of two people fighting.
Dispatchers said a man was being held against his will at gunpoint, and when police arrived at the scene, two suspects fled in a silver Dodge truck.
Police said the driver of the truck fired shots at officers while driving toward them. An officer returned fire as the vehicle continued to approach, officials said.
Investigators said the suspect continued driving, and a short pursuit began near Kettle Drive before the truck crashed into a home in the 100 block of Kettle Circle.
When the truck finally stopped, police said both occupants were pronounced dead inside the vehicle.
Police said the names' of the suspects were not immediately released and the investigation is ongoing.
