CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. - A Frankfort woman was accused of DUI after two kids walking with bicycles were struck by a Jeep in Clinton County Wednesday night.
The crash happened south of Frankfort on State Road 39 just before 8:30 p.m.
The kids, 12 and 16, were airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after the incident.
The children were later identified as siblings Stephen Hunter-Davis, 12, and McKenna Davis, 16, both of Frankfort.
Both children were listed in critical but stable condition.
The woman driving the Jeep was identified as 39-year-old Heather McDaniel. After officers suspected alcohol to be a factor in the cause of the crash, McDaniel was given a Breathalyzer and blood alcohol test. The results of the tests confirmed their suspicions, police said.
McDaniel was arrested and preliminarily charged with operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and criminal recklessness with a vehicle. She was taken into custody at the Clinton County Jail, police said.
Neighborhood residents who witnessed the crash said alcohol-involved accidents are becoming more common on State Road 39.
The Clinton County prosecutor has requested 72 hours to review the case before filing charges.
McDaniel's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
A foundation has been set up to assist the family with financial needs. Donations can be made at the Farmers Bank in Frankfort under the name "Davis Family."
