PORTLAND, Ind. - Authorities say a Muncie couple died when their motorcycle crashed with a car over the weekend in rural eastern Indiana.
The Jay County Sheriff's Department says the crash at the intersection of two county roads also badly injured the car's driver.
The sheriff's department says 50-year-old Homer Darnell and 43-year-old Vanessa Darnell died at the scene following Saturday's crash. The department says 64-year-old Luke Fullenkamp of rural Portland apparently drove through a stop sign and into the motorcycle's path at the intersection about 30 miles northeast of Muncie.
The car went into a ditch and hit a utility pole before ending up on its side in a ditch. The Star Press reports Fullenkamp suffered head injuries and was in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital.
