CLOVERDALE, Ind. - A woman and her 3-year-old child were killed Friday evening in a crash on Interstate 70 in Putnam County.
Indiana State Police said the crash happened about 6:10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes just east of Cloverdale.
Investigators said the driver of a tractor-trailer, Jordan Moore, 27, of Canada, failed to slow down for a construction zone and struck a pickup truck, which then hit a car that burst into flames and hit another car.
Emma Bronson, 49, and her daughter, Zacchia Bronson, 3, both of Pascagoula, Miss., were pronounced dead at the scene. They were riding in the car that burned.
The driver, Michael Bronson, 47, Emma Bronson husband and the girl's father, was treated at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for neck and back pain.
Moore remained hospitalized at Methodist Hospital on Saturday with extensive injuries.
William Bertelmann, the driver of the pickup, was still undergoing observation at Methodist Hospital.
The crash remains under investigation. No citations had been issued Saturday.
