PRAIRIE CREEK, Ind. - Two men face animal fighting charges after police found more than 100 roosters during raids at two alleged cockfighting operations.
Deputies from Vigo and Sullivan counties searched a rural home and a barn Tuesday afternoon near the Vigo County town of Prairie Creek and found more than 100 roosters along with alleged signs of cockfighting and related paraphernalia.
Vigo County chief deputy Clark Cottom tells the Tribune-Star that local resident George Piker faces 30 counts of possessing animals for fighting purposes and other charges.
Deputies who later raided a residence in adjacent Sullivan County found more roosters, cockfighting paraphernalia and a large amount of marijuana.
Police arrested 54-year-old Jeffrey McMahan of Sullivan, who faces 10 counts of possession of animals for intent for fighting and drug charges.
