INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced the death of a veteran officer late Wednesday evening.
IMPD Officer Timothy Day was off duty when he suffered a sudden heart attack while he was attending a local church service, police said.
He was rushed to Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he later died.
"IMPD has lost another fine officer that served our community and department admirably, in one of the most dangerous and decorated units within IMPD. He will be missed by our department and this city," said IMPD Chief Rick Hite. "Please continue to pray for our department’s strength as we deal with these challenging times."
Day was a 26-year veteran of IMPD and was currently assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit.
