INDIANAPOLIS -- Police detained several persons of interest and believe they have those responsible after four people were shot early Sunday morning in downtown Indianapolis.

Police said the shooting happened in the 300 block of S.Meridian Street.

Initial reports from officers on the scene said two victims were found in an alley, and two others were found in the second floor of a nearby garage.

IMPD Downtown Commander Chad Kencht said four men were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds, and they are stable at this point.

Two of the men were found in the parking garage where the shooting happened, IMPD said. The two others found in the alley are believed to have run there, trying to flee from the shooters.

IMPD says they have detained everyone they believe to be involved in the shooting.

Kencht says there was an increased officer presence in all the city's entertainment districts due to race weekend.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what led to the shooting.

The garage was closed for the investigation but as of 9 a.m. was back open again.
