INDIANAPOLIS -- Dozens gathered Saturday morning to rally behind a young Indianapolis boy and his vision to help curb violence in his neighborhood.

Reese Hamilton is turning tragedy into a movement. On Saturday, he joined a group of both adults and children in his northeast side neighborhood to march for peace.

Last month, two men were found shot to and killed in Reese's neighborhood.

The 8-year-old shared his letter with RTV6 at the crime scene, calling for change in his neighborhood and across the city.

The third grader was then invited to meet with Mayor Joe Hogsett so the two could discuss what they could do to help fight the violence.

During that meeting, Reese told the mayor he'd love to get classmates and young people in Indy together to march for peace.

So that's what they did on Saturday. Reese along with the mayor led the group of adults and children chanting for over a mile through his northeast side neighborhood.

"We're out here today because it's important to our young people," said Mayor Hogsett.
