ANDERSON, Ind. -- An Anderson police officer is receiving recognition after buying a girl a new bike after her bike was stolen.

The girl's aunt posted a message on the Anderson Police Department Facebook page yesterday detailing the situation.

She wrote that the girl had just received the new bike as a birthday gift. After it was stolen Wednesday, Officer Matt Jarrett bought her a new one.

"Instead of letting her go to sleep heartbroken, he went out of his pocket to mend her broken heart," the aunt wrote.

The Madison County Safety Alerts - Anderson Scanner Facebook pageshared a photo of Officer Jarrett with the girl and wrote, "Officer Jarrett, we all thank you and honor you for this act of kindness! With all the negativity going on every day it is nice to see someone so generous! You are making a difference in the community and in the lives of today's youth."
