At least 1 person killed in fire on city's west side near Washington St. and Lynhurst Drive

Victim identified as Scott Earles

INDIANAPOLIS - At least one man died early Tuesday after a garage fire sparked on the city's west side.

The fire was reported just before 5 a.m. in the 4800 block of Plainfield Drive near Washington St. and Lynhurst Drive.

Few details were released about the investigation, but dispatchers said firefighters were unable to get inside the structure due to smoke.

Wayne Township Fire Department Chief Mike Pruitt said the garage was detached from the home and that people inside the home were not injured.

The victim was later identified as 40-year-old Scott Earles of Indianapolis. Officials said his father owned the house and garage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
