INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI police are looking for a suspect in an attempted robbery this week.
On Monday, at around 10 p.m., police said a female IUPUI student was talking with a friend in the Informatics and Communications Complex, 535 W. Michigan St., when a man held the door open for her to exit the building while asking, "Are you leaving?"
The student reportedly told the man no, but noticed the same man 20 ft. from the building several minutes later when she exited.
The man then reportedly ran at her, striking her with his shoulder and attempting to grab her cell phone. The victim said she pulled away, ran and hid behind a bush. The suspect then ran to a dark colored Honda parked in IUPUI parking lot #85. The Honda was driven by another unidentified black male. After searching for the victim, they left.
The student was not injured, and police said no weapon was seen.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male with a thin build and unshaven light beard.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 or 800-222-8477. Anonymous tips may be submitted at www.crimetips.org.
