GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. - A mature bald eagle has been found dead from possible electrocution in southwestern Indiana.
Conservation officers said a highway worker found the dead eagle Wednesday directly under power lines in Gibson County.
An X-ray of the raptor found no metal projectiles inside its body.
A bald eagle was found dead directly under power lines in nearby Posey County several years ago. An examination of that bird listed the cause of death as contact with power lines, or electrocution.
Conservation officers said the large wingspan of the eagles and similar birds of prey leaves them more vulnerable to electrocution than other birds.
