COLUMBUS, Ind. – Cummins, a Columbus, Indiana-based company known for their expertise on engines, unveiled Tuesday their prototype for a fully-electric semi-truck.

The Class 7 demonstration Urban Hauler Tractor is the company’s latest development in the EV market. The semi-truck will use a “state-of-the art battery pack offering, redefining energy-efficiency and density capabilities.” The truck design will also include an Engine-Generator option for extended range.

Cummins officials said the engine options offer a 50 percent fuel savings compared to today’s diesel hybrids with zero emissions.

The company also shared their plans to introduce a heavy-duty diesel engine in 2022.

“These new technological innovations build on our 100-year legacy of bringing the best solutions to our customers, driving their success and meeting the evolving demands of their industries and markets,” said Jennifer Rumsey, chief technical officer of Cummins Inc.
