INDIANAPOLIS -- The IHSAA suspended seasons for the girls basketball teams at Ben Davis and Pike high schools Monday following a brawl erupted between players Saturday at a game.

Several fans captured the the fight on their phones.

There is no word on what started the fight.

Marry Lang, Chief Communications Officer for MSD of Wayne Township released a statement Saturday night:

We are extremely disappointed that good sportsmanship was not shown by the players involved in today’s girls basketball game at Ben Davis High School. We are working closely with administrators at Pike High School and the IHSAA to determine exactly which players were involved in this incident.

This behavior is not representative of our values, beliefs, or how we coach our student athletes. It is not reflective of the Ben Davis pride our students, alumni, and community share. And it certainly does not reflect the rich tradition and success of our girls basketball team. The Ben Davis players involved will face consequences at school, and we will comply with any consequences we receive from the IHSAA.

IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox announced the suspension at a press conference Monday.

"These acts are not going to be tolerated," Cox said.

Cox said coaches from both teams will be reuqired to take a role modeling and behavior course, and student athletes will have to take a sportsmanship course.

Both teams will also be on probation next year.

RTV6 reached out to Pike Township for comment, but so far we have not received a response.
