INDIANAPOLIS -- Backlash was swift this week after a group of Ben Davis High School students decided to go to school dressed in very controversial costumes.

Upset parents reached out to RTV6, sharing images of students dressed in trash bags, with trash taped onto them, and their faces painted white.

The students, who were black, were apparently dressed as "white trash."

Parents say their kids told them the students in the pictures dressed that way for "Dirty Day" during Senior Spirit Week.

Administrators said the students came up with the idea, and within an hour of the first class were instructed to change their outfits.

The district released a statement saying a "diverse group of students created their own spirit day," and that the district was disappointed in their actions.
