INDIANAPOLIS -- A Ben Davis High School teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student over a period of several months.

Police were called to the Clarion Hotel on Saturday, April 1, where they determined that an 18-year-old female was having a sexual relationship with her teacher, Robert Chin, 40.

Chin told police that he teaches Honors English, AVID, Senior Capstone and critical thinking at Ben Davis High School and has been employed at the school since 2003. He also told police that he is the head golf coach for the boy's team and assistant golf coach for the girl's team.

The student told police that she had been having "more than just a student teacher relationship" with Chin since the fall of 2015 and that their relationship turned physical several months before her 17th birthday.

The two had met at either the Clarion Hotel or the Baymont Inn on multiple occasions, according to police.

The student also told police that she would send nude photos of herself to Chin over text and Snapchat because he requested them.

Chin initially told police that he and the student were just "really good friends" and they had a "super relationship," but he eventually admitted to having sex with the student on multiple occasions, including before she turned 18.

The Marion County Prosecutor has charged Chin with seven felony counts of child seduction.

School officials with the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township said they had begun the process of canceling Chin's contract and they are cooperating with IMPD on the investigation.

"We were made aware that on Sunday, April 2, a Ben Davis High School teacher was arrested based on allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student. We have begun the statutory process for cancelation of this teacher’s contract. We are in full cooperation with IMPD on this investigation."
