HENRY COUNTY, Ind. - A bicyclist died after the bike he was riding was struck from behind in Henry County on Monday afternoon, officials said.
Darrell Smith, 58, of Richmond, was riding on U.S. 40 just before 1:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Chevrolet Avalanche, police said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Chevrolet, Jonathan Wright, 28, didn’t see Smith riding along the white fog line, police said.
Smith was wearing a helmet but did not have reflective or high visibility clothing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommended that bicyclists should always wear neon, fluorescent or other bright colors when riding during day, dawn, dusk, bad weather or at night.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
