FISHERS, Ind. -- A bicyclist was hit and killed by two vehicles in Fishers, Indiana late Tuesday night.

Police say Elias Rios Bonilla, 26, was riding his bike west on 126th Street around 11:30 p.m., when he crossed the intersection of State Road 37 on a red light.

At that time, two vehicles heading south on SR 37 crossed the same intersection with a green light. The driver of the first vehicle, a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe, told police that he saw the bicycle at the last second and tried to swerve, but was unable to avoid hitting him. The driver of the second vehicle, a 1999 Honda, told police that he saw the Tahoe in the ditch but did not see Bonilla in the road in time to avoid hitting him.

Police initially reported that the second vehicle dragged the victim nearly 100 yards, near the on-ramp to I-69.

The accident remains under investigation by the Fishers Police Department. No criminal charges have been filed at this time and police say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
