Body found on Indianapolis' east side identified

Cause of death not yet determined

INDIANAPOLIS - A body was found on the east side Thursday morning, police said.

Homicide investigators were called to 4041 Stratford Court just before 9 a.m.

Initial reports said the dead male was found in a creek, but he was actually on a sidewalk behind a vacant townhome building, police said.

The victim was later identified as 24-year-old Robert Shorter of Indianapolis, police said.

The groundskeeper at the complex found his body while he was landscaping, police said.

Police said there was a lot of blood coming from the male's head, but they don't know whether or not he was shot.

Officers were initially dispatched on a report of gunfire.

An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The address is located at the Town and Terrace townhome complex near 42nd Street and Post Road.
