INDIANAPOLIS - Police have identified a body that was found behind a building in a carport area Wednesday morning on the east side of Indianapolis.
Indianapolis police (IMPD) said just before 9:30 a.m., a report came in of a body found near 24 N. Wallace Lane.
Possibly related, police said they got a call just after 7 a.m.: A report of "shots fired" came over the scanners from dispatchers near that area of Wallace Lane. But when officers arrived in the area, they said they found nothing.
A couple hours later, however, a man's body was found under a carpet outside nearby Bankers Lane Apartments, in the carport area. Police are still unsure whether the original call of "shots fired" was related to this man's death, and IMPD will not confirm at this time that the victim was killed by gunfire.
IMPD detectives later identified the victim as 56-year-old Andre Brown of Indianapolis. Police said the case was being investigated as a murder.
