WINCHESTER, Ind. - The trial of an eastern Indiana man charged in his parents' deaths has been delayed again, more than three years after his arrest.
The Star Press reported that the trial of Brian "Scott" Hartman, 36, on charges of murder and assisting a suicide is now scheduled to begin Sept. 6.
Police said Hartman told them in 2010 that he and his parents had "made a plan" in which he would fatally shoot his father, Brian Ellis Hartman, while he was sleeping, then provide his mother, Cheri Hartman, with enough medication to take her own life.
The 52-year-old woman had been battling serious illness.
The Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled that statements Hartman made to police can be used at his trial. The state Supreme Court hasn't agreed to hear the case
