INDIANAPOLIS -- It's one of the most important days of your life, a time to celebrate the love between a bride and a groom and as wedding trends come and go, so do the ways we document that day.

From hashtags on Instagram to snap chat filters social media provides so many ways wedding guests can get involved - But there's one that seems to be cropping up more often - brides asking you to put away your phone during the ceremony.

It's called an "unplugged wedding."

And it's something wedding photographers like Ian Borgerhoff say they're seeing more and more often.

"Right at the kiss, which was really important to the bride, I'm set up to get the shot and three rows from the alter an aunt steps out with an iPad," said Borgerhoff.

And that's just one of many reasons some brides are choosing to go unplugged.

Here are six ideas to as your guests to "unplug" during your wedding:

  • Ask your officiant to make a brief announcement before the ceremony starts
  • A cute chalkboard sign; lots of examples on Pinterest
  • Have a flower girl carry a sign down the aisle to put away phones
  • Make a little slideshow video of your engagement pics to email guests a week before the big day with reminders, and that you can't wait to see them
  • Include it in program, wedding invites, or wedding website
  • Have usher/greeter mention it as they walk guests to seats

Fun ways to use phones at wedding receptions:

  • Personalized wedding hashtags
  • Personalized Snapchat filters
  • Wedding photo sharing apps with bride and groom
