INDIANAPOLIS – “Can you hear me?” That’s the question more and more Hoosiers have been asked over the phone in an attempt to scam them into saying, “yes.”
According to authorities, since Feb 6. more than 50 people have complained to the Office of the Attorney General about the scam,which is done in an effort to confirm working phone numbers answered by live people.
What brings even more concern is, authorities also believe the scammers might use the recorded “yes” answers fraudulently to bill callers for items they didn’t order or opt into.
Officials at the Office of the Attorney General said the calls have become so frequent, the Consumer Protection Division received two “can you hear me?” calls within the past week.
The scam was originally reported in late January.

The CPD and Attorney General Curtis Hill are reminding Hoosiers to hang up immediately if they receive this call, or choose to not answer phone numbers they aren’t familiar with.
Calls can be reported to the Office of the Attorney General by calling 1(800) 382-5516.
