Car crash injures Indianapolis police officer

INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis police squad car was involved in a crash early Thursday morning on the city's southwest side, sending an officer and at least one other victim to the hospital.

Indianapolis police (IMPD) said early Thursday, another car crashed into an IMPD car on the exit ramp to Kentucky Avenue off of Interstate 465.

Officials confirmed the officer was sent to IU Methodist Hospital, but dispatchers said his injuries did not sound serious.

The crash involved the IMPD car and another passenger vehicle. Four people total were injured in the crash (including the officer) and one other victim was hospitalized, sent to Eskenazi Health.

Police arrested the driver of the civilian vehicle -- Justin Gunter, 28, of Mustang, Okla. -- on a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
