INDIANAPOLIS -- A police pursuit ended in a crash Monday night near the intersection of Southeastern Avenue and Sherman Drive.

The chase began when a driver didn't stop at a stop sign. When an officer tried to pull him over, he fled.

Police tried to use a maneuver to spin out the suspect's vehicle. Instead it hit a curb, flipped on its side, then landed back on its wheels, minus two tires.

The car then clipped a PT Cruiser and continued evading police until its tires gave out.

The suspect took off on foot, but was apprehended without injury after a short chase.

An IMPD spokesman said two children and a woman, along with the male driver, were in the vehicle that was being chased.

The suspect reportedly said he fled police because he had warrants for his arrest. He was later identified by police as Travis Powell, 37.

Powell now faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving, operating having never received a license and resist fleeing.

The children were taken to Riley Hospital as a precaution.
