INDIANAPOLIS - A car flipped and hit a utility pole on the city's south side Thursday afternoon when the driver fell asleep at the wheel, dispatchers said.
The crash was reported just before 1 p.m. in the 7300 block of Mann Road near Southport Road when a 27-year-old woman was driving home from work.
The woman told police she fell asleep while she was driving. She woke up as her car was headed down an embankment before it flipped and crashed into a utility pole, bursting into flames.
A person passing by the scene stopped and pulled the woman from the vehicle before Decatur Township emergency crews arrived.
Dispatchers said she was taken to Methodist Hospital in good condition.
She was alone in the car at the time.
