Police investigate hit-and-run crash involving car, school bus

No other injuries reported

INDIANAPOLIS - Three children were slightly injured in a crash involving a school bus and a car on the city’s northwest side Wednesday afternoon, official said.

The hit-and-run accident happened at 71st Street and Michigan Avenue at 5:30 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Officers arrived at the scene and found that a car, that had fled the scene, had been struck by an Indiana School for the Deaf school bus, IMPD said.

Three children on the bus reported minor injuries and were taken to St. Vincent Hospital in good condition.

Investigators believed the car pulled out of a nearby business parking lot and was struck by the bus that was traveling south on Michigan Road.

Investigators were following several leads but had preliminarily identified a silver Chevrolet Lumina as the suspected vehicle, IMPD said.

Of the 25 total passengers riding the bus, including the driver, no other injuries were reported.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262- TIPS (8477).
